Debutants surprise at Dutch Championships Frisian Draughts
In the very first round of the Dutch Championships Frisian Draughts no less than four decisions were made. Frederik Bos played a difficult classic opening against Frans Kingma and due to the good preparation by the former, Kingma fell a piece behind which ultimately proved fatal.
Hein de Vries took an outpost against Taeke Kooistra in the opening, but when this was exchanged, Kooistra's position quickly improved and he managed to build up a a winning position eventually.
Dicky van der Meer played a difficult centre game against Jelle Wiersma, but still got a chance for a winning endgame. However, this was too deep to find. As Wiersma increased pressure on Van der Meer's position, the latter lost the endgame.
In Groenveld's match against Walinga, it was Groenveld who largely controlled the game. In the endgame the took an unexpected turn and Walinga got the victory.
Tomorrow the tournament continues in the Van der Valk hotel in Drachten.
