Favorites take the lead and gambit play appears to be strong again in Frisian draughts.
The Dutch Championships Frisian Draughts continued today with the second. The positional match between Frederik Bos and Hein de Vries was an even matched for a long time. However, Bos missed a combination by De Vries at the end of the middle game and thus unfortunately lost.
Frans Kingma had a hard job against the experienced Taeke Kooistra, but Kooistra turned out to be a size too big for him.
The match between two of the favorites Jelle Wiersma and Marten Walinga was played at the cutting edge. A small positional advantage was well played out by Walinga in an exciting endgame of one king and three checkers each. Thus Walinga scored an important point.
The match between Folkert Groenveld and Dicky van der Meer may be called truly exciting. Van der Meer opted for a gambit in the opening game and managed to build a strong position despite the disadvantage of one piece. After a breakthrough by Van der Meer, Groenveld's chances were gone.
Taeke Kooistra and Marten Walinga are now in the lead with two points each.
