In the penultimate round of the Dutch Championships Frisian Draughts, Jelle Wiersma closed in half a point on the leader Taeke Kooistra after beating Frederik Bos. It could have been worse because Groenveld let the win slip in the endgame against Kooistra. Walinga tried a new opening variant but blundered and lost against De Vries. Dicky van der Meer played a strong match against Frans Kingma, who misjudged a combination he pulled off in the endgame.
In the evening the Dutch Championships FRYSK! (Frisian Draughs with only five pieces each) was held. 23 Participants played a total of 7 rounds. Taeke Kooistra, who already showed his form in the regular tournament, beat most players again and rightly became champion. He qualifies for the World Championships FRYSK!, which will be held on 25 February 2024 in the old town hall of Franeker.
