Marten Walinga victorious again in the second game of the world championships match!
With a spectacular combination, Marten Walinga managed to win the game to some surprise. For most of the game play had been cautious, with a slight advantage for white. Similar to yesterday, Marten (now playing black), produced a so-called salesman’s move. Realistically it was impossible, however, Folkert covetted playing a combination himself, chose the wrong piece and it was all over and out. Both commentators, Jouke Algra and Hans Jansen, were still actively looking for combinations for white (Folkert) when it became apparent that black had already made a king and could claim victory.
The match score is now 2-0, with nine games to go. Folkert was obviously disappointed with how the game ended, but he remained calm and composed and afterwards analysed the game, together with his opponent. During the analysis several other possible combinations, for both sides, were discussed. The current score lent itself beautifully for this.
In Frisian draughts a 2-0 deficit is by no means the end of competition, especially as it is practically impossible to play for a draw. However, it does mean that Folkert Groenveld needs to win one of these games!
